Santa Monica Heating, Cooling and Air Quality Service

The short answer

Climvanta HVAC Repair Service works across Santa Monica ZIPs 90401 through 90405, about 12 miles south of our Tarzana base. We repair and install heating and cooling, including heat pumps and ductless systems for homes and condos adding AC for the first time.

For a long time, plenty of Santa Monica homes got by without air conditioning. Ocean breezes and the marine layer kept most summer days comfortable, and a small furnace or wall heater handled winter. That is changing. Warm spells and fall Santa Ana winds now bring stretches of hot, dry weather even near the coast, and many owners are adding cooling for the first time or replacing aging heaters with systems that do both jobs. Climvanta HVAC Repair Service drives about 12 miles south from Tarzana to work in ZIP codes 90401, 90402, 90403, 90404 and 90405, and our westside route also takes us through Los Angeles, Culver City, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and Calabasas.

Adding air conditioning to a home that never had it

This is one of the most common projects we discuss in Santa Monica. The right approach depends on what the house already has. A home with a forced-air furnace and reasonably sized ducts can often take a new outdoor unit and indoor coil, or a heat pump that replaces the furnace's heating role as well. A home heated by a wall or floor unit, with no ducts at all, is usually a better fit for ductless mini-splits.

Before recommending anything, we look at the electrical panel, the attic or crawlspace, where an outdoor unit could sit without bothering neighbors and how the rooms are arranged. In a compact lot with close neighbors, equipment placement and sound levels matter as much as capacity.

Condos and multi-unit buildings

Apartments and condos make up a large part of the city's housing, and they come with their own constraints. Some points we work through with condo owners:

  • HOA rules on where outdoor units, line sets and wall penetrations can go
  • Roof or balcony access for equipment and how it will be serviced later
  • Electrical capacity in units built long before AC was common
  • Noise limits for shared walls and nearby bedrooms
  • Whether existing ducts, if any, are shared or dedicated to your unit

Life near the ocean

Coastal air carries salt, and over the years it corrodes condenser coils, fan motor housings and electrical connections. Units in the blocks closest to the water show it first. Regular fresh-water rinsing of the outdoor coil, tightening and cleaning terminals and replacing rusted fasteners help equipment last. For new installations, we discuss coil protection suited to coastal exposure.

Humidity is the other coastal factor. Damp mornings and closed-up homes can lead to musty smells in ducts or around the indoor coil. Clean drain pans, clear condensate lines and properly sized equipment that runs long enough to pull moisture out of the air keep that in check.

Repairs and tune-ups for existing systems

For homes that already have heating and cooling, our work here looks much like it does anywhere else: furnaces that will not ignite, heat pumps stuck in defrost, air conditioners that run without cooling and blowers that grow noisy with age. Because coastal systems often run lightly for months, they can sit with small faults that only appear on the first hot or cold day. A maintenance visit before summer and before winter is the simplest way to avoid that surprise.

We also handle duct cleaning and filtration. Wildfire smoke can reach the coast during fire season, and a sealed return with a suitable filter keeps much of it out of your living space.

Utilities, rules and incentives

Santa Monica is a separate city from Los Angeles, and many homes outside the City of Los Angeles are served by Southern California Edison rather than LADWP. Rebates depend on the utility that serves your address, so we confirm the current offer before quoting it. The federal 25C heat pump credit applied to systems placed in service before December 31, 2025, and it is not available for new installations.

If you plan to replace a gas furnace, South Coast AQMD Rule 1111 limits NOx emissions from natural-gas fan-type central furnaces sold and installed in the region and is being amended toward zero-emission requirements. Check the current compliance dates, which the district sets and revises, before choosing equipment.

How a visit goes

  1. Diagnosis before parts

We measure and inspect first, so the fix matches the real cause instead of the loudest symptom.

  2. Plain-language findings

You get a clear account of what we tested, what failed and what is wearing out, with photos when that helps.

FAQ

Common questions

Don’t see your question? Call (213) 566-2384 and we’ll talk it through.

Can you add AC to my older Santa Monica house?

Usually, yes. If you have ducts, we can often add a central system or heat pump. If not, ductless mini-splits are a common, low-disruption option.

Will my HOA allow a mini-split?

Many do, with rules on placement and appearance. We help you gather the equipment details your HOA typically asks for before approval.

Why is my outdoor unit corroding?

Salt air near the coast speeds up corrosion. Regular rinsing and electrical maintenance slow it, and coastal coil protection helps on new units.

Do I need AC this close to the ocean?

Many homes manage without it most of the year, but hot spells and Santa Ana winds bring uncomfortable days. A heat pump can add cooling while also handling heat.

Are LADWP rebates available in Santa Monica?

Santa Monica is outside the City of Los Angeles, and many homes there are on Southern California Edison. We confirm your utility and current rebates first.

Which Santa Monica ZIP codes do you serve?

We serve 90401, 90402, 90403, 90404 and 90405, plus nearby Los Angeles, Culver City, Beverly Hills and West Hollywood.
